Relationshuset - Give Your Hand
In 2007 our Christmas gift to our customers was original and individualized communication
Challenge
In the weeks before Christmas, many gifts are exchanged between companies, but it can also be a ‘disturbing’ and used to get extra attention. In 2007 we therefore decided to demonstrate to our own contacts what we mean by DM and individualized communications. We would tease the curiosity and of course leave the receiver with a good experience and a warming gift.
Strategy
We seized the challenge and took advantage of the expectation of receiving a Christmas present from us to engage and motivate the target audience. If they wanted their Christmas gift they had to give something in return such as a print of their hand
- We played with the duplicity in ’giving a hand’ –a sort of charity in shape of a gift - this year’s most popular tendency at Christmas time. This created curiosity and suspense:
- With a teasing invitation we lured the recipients to return a special made box with oasis material and an imprint of their hand. The challenge was: “How much of yourself are you willing to give?”
- For the few that did not immediately return the box with the imprint of their hand they received a reminder e-mail
- When we had received everybody’s hands we then sent off the gifts: a pair of smooth high-quality skin gloves produced by ‘Randers Handsker’ – obviously the right size as we had the measurement from the imprint in the oasis material. Enclosed was clearly a personalized Christmas card
- The expectations were elegantly turned to curiosity and a playful form for dialogue. The curiosity was the engine of the campaign! And by that we linked our contacts even closer to us
Result
Everyone was happy for their gifts! But sometimes the joy of expectation is the greatest. Our contacts were carried away by the game and gave us their ‘hand’ in return. Neither they nor we were disappointed!
- Around 90% of the recipients returned an imprint of their hand and were subsequently sent a Christmas gift from Relationshuset
- Over 60% returned an imprint of their hand within the first four days after receiving our request – the Christmas spirit had gotten to our contacts and suddenly their hands were hanging loose
